S.U.P.E.R. 2026

On April 28, the EMIC Lab went to the KU Department of Psychology 2026 Symposium for Undergraduate Psychology Engagement and Research (S.U.P.E.R.) poster event.

Here’s us all smiling together at the end of the session.

Cadance, Kyle, Nathan, and Tre presented the work they’ve been doing on how important contexts like the classroom, library, and gym shape KU students’ daily emotions. They collaborated with PSYC 622 capstone students in using a combination of experience sampling, public surveys, semi-structured interviews, and in-person observations. We’re inspired to take an ecological approach by Roger Barker’s Midwest Psychological Field Station – which was also here at KU!

Alora, Reese, and Dasha presented their work validating consumer-grade wearable devices – here a Garmin smartwatch – against our lab-standard physiology recording device from MindWare. They got to stress participants out in several ways, with the aim of seeing where one device might be more reliable or preferrable for our upcoming projects. After nearly a year, we’re almost done with data collection and ready for analysis!

After several snowed-out attempts, we finally managed to get (most of us) together for a celebratory coffee and hot cocoa.
